I got an interesting call yesterday from David Weinberg, the President of Kleen Wheels. They make dust shields that go between the wheel and rotor. He called me to inform me of a new product that can make getting wheels on and off easier.David saw the article from the August 2006 issue about removing difficult brake drums and rotors, he wanted to inform me of his solution to the problem. His new product called WHEEL MATES and they are non-metallic discs designed to be placed on the wheel mounting surface of a brake rotor/brake drum, or between the two rims of a dual wheel application, in order to provide a new, clean, smooth, and true mounting surface; without using abrasive or caustic cleaning methods that compromise the integrity of brake assembly components. They are designed to prevent stuck-on rims from corroded surfaces. David is sending me some samples next week.
