Spotting Hydraulic Leaks
This is a tech tip sent in from Glen Beanard:
Hydraulic Leak Detection
One of the best products on the market is UV leak detection dye. Simply install the dye, then inspect the leaking area under a black light with special filtering glasses. The source of the leak will appear literally right before your eyes. However, if the UV light is out of order, or the leak is on a system that you my not have the correct dye on hand for, such as the brake's hydraulic system, an alternative method may be in order. Athlete's foot powder may be the ticket in this case. Start by cleaning the leaky area down. Then, dry it thoroughly. Spray the suspect area with athlete's foot power in the spray-can form.
You might have to exercise the effected system at same time as application, but the foot power should cling to it, and outline the source of the leak.
