I get about two requests a year from lawyers about asbestos litigation where they want to use old issues of Brake & Front End as evidence. Typically, I do not pull the issues due to time constraints. Plus, I want to appear as neutral as possible on any litigation.
I will refer them to the Library of Congress or National Automotive History Collection in Detroit at the main branch of the Detroit Public Library

Alfred D'Ulisse didn't think much about the dust in the air when he was stripping down car brakes at a Brooklyn factory in the 1960s.
"We didn't know," said D'Ulisse, 73, of Massapequa. "It was like cigarettes. We had no idea that what we were breathing might be hurting us."
But some of the car companies who made the asbestos brake linings did know as early as 1939, and they didn't announce it publicly, D'Ulisse said.
This week, a Manhattan jury awarded D'Ulisse $25 million for what he has suffered, 80 percent of which will be paid by the DaimlerChrysler Corp., which manufactured many of the brakes that he worked on...
