Retrieving ABS Codes, Bill Williams, Brake and Front End
The diagnosis of the majority of ABS problems starts with a "light-on" condition. In a vast number of these cases, a light-on condition will be accompanied by one or more trouble codes. Accessing these trouble codes is one of the first things done during the diagnostic process. Unfortunately, there is not a standard on how these codes are stored or accessed. Understanding how to get to the codes is a critical part of the diagnostic process.
The diagnostic process actually starts before the access of the trouble codes. The first step in the process is to make sure you are familiar with the system being diagnosed. The number of ABS systems in use grows with each new model year. It is not possible to be familiar with all of these systems and what makes one different from another.
